Avui us presento a aquest gran rosegador, la marmota alpina (Marmota marmota). Aquest rosegador ,pertanyent a la família Sciuridae, és d’hàbits diürns i viu en grups familiars. Típic dels prats alpins i subalpins, sobretot a prop de grans roques fragmentades i sòls que permetin excavar caus. En cas de sentir-se amenaçades emeten una sèrie de xiulets per avisar les altres marmotes que es troben a prop.
La seva distribució bàsicament se centra en els Alps i els Pirineus. Cal destacar que en els Pirineus van ser introduïdes en l’any 1948 amb exemplars procedents dels Alps.

Today I present this large rodent, the alpine marmot (Marmota marmota) . This rodent belong to the Sciuridae family. It’s a diurnal animal and lives in family groups. Typical of alpine and subalpine meadows , especially near huge rocks and fragmented soil which allows marmots digging burrows. When they are under threat they emit different whistles to warn the other marmots nearby.
Distribution basically focuses on the Alps and the Pyrenees. It should be pointed out that in the Pyrenees were introduced in 1948 with specimens from the Alps.
