La cigonya negra // The black stork

Avui us porto, sense cap mena de dubte, una de les joies ornitològiques que es poden observar a la península Ibèrica, la cigonya negra (Ciconia nigra).

Aquesta magnífica au resulta esquiva i difícil d’albirar, car nia a llocs allunyats de zones urbanitzades. Sol construir els nius a espadats, en grans roques i també en grans arbres. Presenta una alimentació d’allò més variada: peixos, rèptils, amfibis i també alguns insectes de grans dimensions.

Les fotografies van ser preses a Extremadura, en una sortida de camp per observar fauna salvatge.

In today’s entrance I bring you, without a doubt, one of the most appreciated bird for ornithologists that can be seen in the Iberian Peninsula: the black stork (Ciconia nigra).

This magnificent bird is elusive and difficult to spot because it nests in places far from urban centers. It usually builds the nests in cliffs, in large rocks and also in large trees. It has a very varied diet: fishes, reptiles, amphibians and also some large insects.

The photographs were taken in Extremadura, in a trip to see wildlife.

El picot garser gros // The great spotted woodpecker

Avui us porto una de les aus forestals més boniques que es poden trobar als boscos de casa nostra, el picot garser gros (Dendrocopos major). Aquesta au forestal pertany a la família Picidae, família que engloba els coneguts picots.

El picot garser gros presenta una distribució bastant àmplia, estant present en gairebé tot Europa i part d’Àsia. Sol trobar-se en diferents tipus d’hàbitats: boscos de coníferes, boscos de ribera, etc. La seva alimentació és molt variada, des de diversos tipus de fruits secs silvestres, insectes i també de vegades pot depredar ous i fins i tot pollets d’altres aus.

Today I bring you one of the most beautiful forest birds that can be found in the forests of the Iberian Peninsula, the spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopus major). This forest bird belongs to the family Picidae, family that includes the well-known woodpeckers.

The woodpecker is found in a quite wide distribution, being present in almost all Europe and part of Asia. It is usually found in different types of habitats: coniferous forests, riverbank forests, etc. Its feeding is very varied, from various types of wild nuts, insects and sometimes can prey eggs and even chick of other birds.

The photos I present below are from a female. I took this photos in a hide of Naturaaprop.
