El dofí comú // The common dolphin

Després d’un llarg temps sense fer una nova publicació, avui us porto a uns dels animals més emblemàtics dels mars i oceans del nostre planeta: el dofí comú (Delphinus delphis).

Aquests cetacis pertanyents a la família Delphinidae es distribueixen al llarg de la mar Mediterrània i en zones relativament grans dels oceans Atlàntic, Pacífic i Índic. Aquest dofí pot arribar a mesurar 2,7 metres de llarg i arribar a pesar uns 110 kg. Aquesta espècie és fàcilment identificable per la coloració grisenca típica a la zona dorsal, coloració blanca a la zona ventral i una vistosa coloració groguenca a la zona toràcica.

Les fotografies que us presento a continuació pertanyen a individus albirats durant un viatge al bell arxipèlag de Madeira, on vaig tenir el privilegi de poder observar uns 50 individus.

After a long time without publishing any entry of the blog, today I bring you some of the most emblematic animals of the seas and oceans of our planet: the common dolphin (Delphinus delphis).

These cetaceans belonging to the Delphinidae family are distributed along of the Mediterranean Sea and larges areas of the Atlantic, pacific and Indian Oceans. This dolphin can reach up to 2.7 meters in length and weigh about 110 kg. This species is easily identifiable by the typical grayish coloration in the dorsal area, white coloration in the ventral zone and a characteristic yellowish coloration in the thoracic zone.

The photos were taken during a journey around Madeira island, when I had the privilege  to observe more than 50 specimens.
